"This project - a tribute to Karen Carpenter - started as a dialogue with Bernadette many months ago with vague notions of what would develop. As we selected some of my poems, I also wrote new poems for the project as we began to record the music, Bernadette was confident that her musical compositions would make each track dynamic. Her idea to invite multiple artists to perform on the project proved brilliant. The many talented multi-national vocalists and musicians were a pleasure to work with and each share in the quality and originality of the production. The talented children who performed back-up vocals added depth to the project. Dave Chun and Dave Kowalski were inspiring as they recorded and mixed each track. Michael Macagnone exceeded the highest expectations on the DVD documentary film. Hearing some of the recordings played live on WVOX on "Metropolitan Sessions Live" has been thrilling. This project serves as testimony to the timeless music of the Carpenters brought current through notes, voices and technical wizardry of the many extraordinary people who participated in its making. You've all provided special light to something that has only just begun - the present."

"Bernadette, working with you was a great pleasure. We met over the phone as Westchester Residents. I was invited to a session with the always hilarious Stanley Banks & the great percussionist Café Da Silva. The session was absolutely the best.....but the song that was the most fun was "Calm Collector". What a cool tune. I fell in love with it from the jump. Sexy, calm, cool and very much very collected indeed! Thank you for the opportunity and I wish you all the best with this project!"
From Producer/Arranger Bob Baldwin and your friends at: www.bobbaldwin.com.

Your golden voice has been 'Sailing' far & wide,

When you walked into the recording studio that wintery day, all the wonderful chills & butterflies I felt inside, soon became a warm & sparkling moment for me,

At his Jones Beach concert, he stepped out onto the wet stage in the pouring rain with his guitar, it was pure magic! Thank you Mr. Benson! You stopped by & cheered me on,..and for this, I'll sing on... Early inspiration.., Bobby Weinstein of 'Goin' Out Of My Head' song classic...listened to all of my demos when I was working at BMI, fresh out of College. Thank you, Mr. Weinstein for your encouragement & belief in my talent. You're one of the great Songwriters!. Caple & film greats who visited our Theater Classes...William Marshall & Louis Gossett, Jr.
LOVE BY THE LIGHTHOUSE (Breath Instrumental) INSPIRATION... "As I was in the studio, recording the breath background vocals...I remembered that one note!...that one note that the one & only Johnny Mathis reaches for in 'The Shadow of Your Smile' as he grabs the gold, gets it & holds onto the note for dear life, brilliantly, like a gold-medal winner, with great warmth & vibrato. Everyone, especially Singers, just get this early recording of Mr. Mathis & see him in concert at least once in your lifetime ...You 'll know when he hits the note!...As a child, I would sing harmony along to all of his records, from my parents' album collection. My Mother, being a Classical singer, I'd hear everything & all pop music. I've learned that there are moments when the simple act of letting your voice run clear on the track, works best. Mr. Mathis' clear approach makes him a great story-teller of song. For my 'Lighthouse' (Breath Instrumental) listeners, I hope the story glows for you... Thank you, Mr. Mathis for a lifetime of inspiration...and for being one of the greatest singers on earth! My Lead Pop Vocal, full melody story of 'Lighthouse' will suddenly appear, like a ghost...on my next solo album due soon (smile). To Café...You are one of greatest percussionists on earth! I praytell that beautiful Brazil will always share you with us all! But I will say no more, just feel his magic on this track. ...When I first heard this amazing horn sound at a special Easter Concert, I said, "Who is THAT?". Well folks, like many, I've have reached Mike Phillips, this 'hot' new smooth Jazz Saxophonist. What a night!, He flew in from Atlanta, while at the studio, Dave Chun was delivering an excellent electric rhythm guitar track (thank you, Dave, you sound great). Mike walked in, heard my song for the first time and said with a cunning smile, "Let's do this!" Feel his fire...one take, folks, one take...thank you, Mike...wow! ...The world knows of the great guitarist from Brazil...Romero Lubambo. I met Romero through Café (thank you). I own many recordings of Romero's...So when he warmly gave me a big welcome on the phone & simply said 'yes', I couldn't believe it! Next session...my friend & great Engineer, Dave Kowalski, Romero, photographer Barry L. Mason and I. As Romero picks up his guitar and begins to play, a special glow takes over the studio & we're all in on it. His sound is so warm, classic and romantic... Thank You forever, Romero...keep glowing. ...Now I come to Kim Plainfield, & he just simply delivers the goods. He instinctively knows the sound I'm in. Drummer extraordinaire! Of course you all know that Kim is on many Jon Lucien recordings & many others... And to see the live magic of a Jon Lucien Concert...behold & treasure it, forever! The Lighthouse session with Kim, I sat there happily, said nothing, anticipating Kim's dynamic playing style: his beautiful sensitivity & then awesome explosion. Thanks, Kim...you sound terrific! Strings...these wonderful musicians Marlene J. Rice (violin) & Nioka Workman (cello) transcended the session, just by placing the strings at the top & bottom of the tune, giving it a hauntingly beautiful effect. I thank you, both...for your warm & shining string tones...I'd work with you again and again... Wow to Larry Carver, for photographing & capturing this magnificent California Lighthouse. ...Romance inspires me so...from 'The Ghost & Mrs. Muir', to Poitier's 'A Warm December', to K.Hepburn's 'Summertime', to Itzhak Perlman's strings on Legrand's 'I Will Wait For You', to Pavarotti, to Harrison Ford's 'Sabrina'...I know love & 'Moonlight', if nothing else. The sole inspiration for writing this song...One of the great distinguished Actors of our time, an Artist in Residence when I attended Shaw University in Raleigh N.C. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Thalmus Rasulala of the famed "Roots" film classic. One evening on campus, Thalmus & I performed a duet at coronation, singing 'You Are So Beautiful'. After our performance, he said to me..."Behold...the only thing greater than your talent, is belief in yourself" His words, still with me. An illuminating presence to many. Thalmus urged me to write, act, but always be a singer first. And as in "Roots", he held little Kunta Kinte up to the light in the sky... I look to the light of illumination of hopes & dreams. Ah...the Lighthouse, I think of love, & all things possible. This song is for you, Mr. Rasulala. You left us too soon...but your light shimmers on forever, oh sweet Omoro... God Bless You & your Family..." ...love Bernadette www.thesongsandmusicofbernadette.com/
